The average price of regular gas in the independent stations is now 24.9 cents, and by Monday it should be a cent higher, it was stated. Dan Lundberg, executive secretary of the California Petroleum Marketing Council, stated that the retail rise will' reflect increases announced this week by seven independent refineries. Fire Victim's Condition Said To Be Critical Condition of 12-year-old James Francis Kennedy of Pomona, who was critically burned yesterday in a gasoline fire, was reported "unchanged" by Pomona Valley Hospital spokesman this morning. Bail of $50 on each charge was declared forfeited and bench warrants were issued for his arrest on both counts. Mendez was arrested July 24, pleaded guilty to both charges on July 28, and his case was continued for sentence to yesterday. Bail on the two bench warrants was $50 each. Man Sentenced On Two Counts Of Petty Theft Pharis Donald Dean, 35, of Fontana, was sentenced to a fine of $225 or 45 days in jail when he appeared in Municipal Court yesterday for probation hearing and sentence on a twocount charge of petty theft, Dean, who pleaded guilty July 28 to writing two checks on the Pomona branch of the Bank of America, altho admittedly having no account there, had appealed for probation, which was denied yesterday by Judge Roland J. Ontario, in San Antonio Hospital, UpCoedmuniday land, after a year's illness. He was a member of Chino IOOF lodge and a charter member of B'nai B'rith and Temple Beth Israel in Pomona. Diamond was born in Russia April 24, 1887, spent his boyhood in England and then came to the United States. He first lived in Newark, N. but for the last 43 years he had been a resident of California.
He moved to Ontario in 1919. Surviving are his widow, Rebecca; three brothers, Morriss, Irvington, N. Harry, Ontario; Louis, Newark; four sisters, Rebecca Bornstein, Irvington; sie Weisman, Irvington; Ann Barr, Irvington; Minnie Hauben, Ontario; 14 nieces and nephews. ROJAS Jose Maria Rojas, 88-year-old native and lifelong resident of Pomona Valley, whose home was at 784 W. 8th passed away at 3:30 p.m.
Friday after four months of illness. Mr. Rojas was born Jan. 1, 1867, in Spadra. He became a pioneer rancher of this area, where he resided thruout his life.
He was a member of the Catholic Church. is survived by two sons, Tony Rojas and Rudolph B. Rojas, both of Pomona, and by 24 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Rosary will be recited in Todd Memorial North Chapel at 8 p.m. Sunday.
